Plants
attached, ultmately in dense tufts, soft, light green to about 3 -
10 cm tall, or in protected pools detached and much larger, even to
60 cm; the initial sac early split, the very broad segments of the
membrane becoming plane or irregularly tuffled; cells in surface view
irregularly placed or somewhat grouped 2-4 together' generally 7-18
µ, infrequently o 26µ diam., rounded angular to round
or oval, the intervening walls moderately thick to very thick and
gelatinous in appearance; the thallus membrane 20 - 40 µ, occasionally
to 60µ thick, with the cells in section rounded rectangular
and about 15 - 21µ tall.
